Piombino port is one of the main gateways to the Island of Elba: ferries and hydrofoils depart for Portoferraio, Rio Marina, Cavo and other destinations in the archipelago. In summer services are frequent; the crossing usually takes around 45–60 minutes depending on the vessel and route. It's worth booking ahead, especially on July and August weekends, and following check-in times indicated by the shipping companies.
Elba offers famous beaches — among the best known Cavoli, Sansone, Capo Sant'Andrea, Fetovaia and Lacona — with seabeds suited to snorkelling and trails through Mediterranean scrub. Portoferraio, the main town, has a fortified historic centre ideal to explore on foot; the island also lends itself to mountain biking, kayaking and trekking towards Monte Capanne.
Closer to the agricamping, the Gulf of Baratti is famous for its pale sand and transparent water, nestled between the archaeological park and the pine forest. Along the Piombino coast, Calamoresca and Punta Falcone are loved for their rocks and sea colours; heading north, Sterpaia Park and the beaches of San Vincenzo and Rimigliano add equipped lidos and long walks under the pines.
Boaters should watch depths and local regulations; by car, use only designated parking areas at beaches. For Baratti and Populonia, in summer it's best to leave your car at Parcheggio Caldanelle and continue on the free 15E shuttle, active every day.
For a day trip, head to Portoferraio if you want a mix of history and nearby beaches, or choose the west coast (Fetovaia, Seccheto) if you're looking for sea and nature. Bring swimwear, sunscreen and a light jacket for the ferry return.
From the campsite, reach Piombino port in about twenty minutes by car; alternatively, summer lines 016, 019 and 015 connect Piombino to the regional network. Always check ferry times and availability on the shipping companies' websites.
